Prophetess & Fugitive
Nomthuli
Reads the truth in dreams no one wants interpreted. Sentenced to die for a crime she isn’t guilty of — while hiding something the whole kingdom needs.

When the prophetess Nomthuli reads danger in the queen’s dream, the queen answers with a lie of her own — branding Nomthuli a witch and blaming her for the drought choking the land.
Hunted by the king’s army, Nomthuli flees toward the Zambezi with a warrior who owes her nothing, a dog bred for war, and a secret bound tight beneath her cloth that everyone assumes is a child.
What she carries is older and stranger than a child — and only rain, and truth, can set it free.
Unless the old laws are restored, you will not live to see the next harvest.— Nomthuli, to the Queen
Prophetess & Fugitive
Reads the truth in dreams no one wants interpreted. Sentenced to die for a crime she isn’t guilty of — while hiding something the whole kingdom needs.
Lone Warrior
A former soldier who trusts no crown. Bought at first with gold — kept on the road by a dream he can’t explain and doesn’t want to believe.
War Dog
Vusa’s dog, his equal in the field. Silent, vicious, and bound to Vusa long before Nomthuli entered their path. Marked in a dream to face the famine itself.
The Queen
Convinced her family’s future is worth any lie. Haunted by a dream of a starving lioness she refuses to understand.
The King
Persuaded, not cruel by nature — a ruler who chooses his family’s power over one woman’s life, and has to live with what that costs.
The General
The King’s general, Vusa’s former comrade. Believes in order above all else. Sent to end a threat he doesn’t know is invented.

Long before the drought, the land kept a covenant — the law of Elijah, the promise that rain would follow righteousness, and silence would follow its betrayal.
When the queen breaks that law to protect her throne, the sky keeps its side of the bargain. The falls at Mosi-oa-Tunya, thunder made visible, go silent for the first time in memory.
